Izzy Nova
Izzy Nova was born in Atlanta, GA, U.S.A. in 1993. Her mother is a first-generation Vietnamese immigrant and her father, second-generation offspring of a German-Jew and Dutch-Catholic parents. Over the years, the artist has lived in Georgia, the Arabian Peninsula, and New York. The artist takes influence from her ambiguous, but vivid life and response to other life.
The artist’s technique is intuitive, with layering and layering, either digging in or building above. Often she reiterates color, placing dry medium of the same hue onto its wet counterpart. Paused and sedated, figures and avatars within the pieces are slipping away, easy targets to the arrows drawn to strike in their direction. They become “wicked and wild, sick and sour”; words of expression for the incubator inside the artist.
